A 64-year-old Paphos resident faces serious charges after being caught driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeding 16 times the legal limit.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when Paphos Traffic Police stopped the man’s vehicle in the Anavargos area.
A preliminary breath test indicated a concerning level of alcohol consumption.
Further testing at the Paphos Traffic Police headquarters confirmed a BAC of 152mg%, well over the legal limit of 9mg%.
This arrest comes within three years of the man’s previous license revocation for a similar DUI offence. The stricter legal limit of 5mg% for recently revoked licenses applies in this case.
The driver was charged and will be summoned to court.
The Paphos Police emphasised that alcohol and drugs significantly impair a driver’s focus and reaction time, dramatically increasing the risk of accidents and endangering both the driver and others on the road.
